David Granger the Town Maker

 David Granger the Town Maker

It seems David Granger's legacy will be highlighted by greed, broken promises, gross ineptitude, cover-ups, turn the other cheek, casting blind eyes, pseudo military government administration and creating towns. Let's not dwell on the other items. Currently, in Guyana, there are ten Administrative Regions and nine Towns: New Amsterdam, Georgetown, Corriverton, Rose Hall, Linden, Anna Regina, Bartica, Lethem and Mabaruma. David Granger aims to create towns which will be capitals of the ten regional administrative Districts. Bartica, Lethem, Mabaruma, and Madhia have been identified as capitals of the following regions: Cuyuni-Mazaruni, Rupununi, Barima-Waini, and Potaro-Siparuni, respectively. Thus, six more geographies will be identified as capitals. One thinks either New Amsterdam or Corriverton will be capital of District Six. Perhaps, District Six will be the exception. Rose Hall needs to be capital of Lower Corentyne Coast. While Corriverton be chosen as the administrative center of Upper Corentyne Coast and the West Bank of the Corentyne River. New Amsterdam would serve the remaining locations of East Berbice. Perhaps, Canje ought to have its administrative center. Districts three and five don't have towns. Madhia isn’t a town. Also, Granger indicated Georgetown will not be the capital of East Demerara. Therefore, Guyanese can expect four more towns within the next fourteen months. Rosignol is likely the best choice to be capital of District Five. Hopetown must be under consideration. Granger mentioned Blairmont and Fort Wellington. How about Ithaca? Buxton ought to be the choice for District Four. The town of Buxton needs to encompass from Annandale to Vigilance, both inclusive. During the last half of the nineteenth century Buxton emerged the top rural community. Buxton was a worthy challenger to New Amsterdam and Georgetown. In fact, Buxton supplied the towns and numerous communities with hundreds of outstanding academics, educators, technocrats, politicians, health care professionals and skilled craftsmen. This researcher thought Buxton was denied township in 1970 because of its proximity to Georgetown. Conspiracy theorists, perhaps, may arrive at a sinister plot. Historically, village politicians of Victoria, Golden Grove -Nabaclis, Buxton - Friendship, Plaisance, Sparendaam and Ann's Grove - Two Friends have been occasionally too vociferous and militant for the colonial authorities, 1823 - 1919. Perhaps, Buxton -Friendship isn't the PNC APNU stronghold as PPP always insisted. Why then would David Granger who prides himself as a historian overlook Buxton - Friendship? This researcher absolutely believe it's party politics in current times as it were in 1952 and 1970. Then, again a long shot, Granger may declare Buxton is the capital of Demerara. Who knows how that guy's mind functions? You can't be Burnham's pit bull and not copy a number of his missteps. This researcher is sure Buxton wasn't a favorite of Burnham. Apparently, Granger isn't hot for Buxton. Yet, Buxton - Friendship was hot for Granger in May 2015. Isn't that an apt description of unrequited love? Buxton people need to stop that train, as they did, twice, during the last half of the nineteenth century. Where have you gone my Mama, Sankey Rodney? Is it possible NATURE doesn't make lionesses like Nana Culley anymore? One thinks Linden will be capital of District Ten. Kwakwani is perhaps not yet ready to be a town. Where are Matthew's Ridge and Port Kaituma in the scheme of things? Rupununi is a huge area. It will be necessary to augment Lethem with sub administrative centers. Granger administration has created the towns of Bartica, Lethem and Mabaruma in fourteen months in office. Madhia is perhaps next on the agenda. Please note: Burnham created three towns Corriverton, Rose Hall and Linden in twenty one years. Jadgeo created Anna Regina in some thirteen years. The colonial authorities created four towns: New Amsterdam, Georgetown, Bartica and Morawhanna, 1616-1966. The towns of Bartica and Morawhanna were short lived. Thus, by some thirty months in office David Granger will create as many towns as there was when he became president of Guyana. Perhaps, Granger will make New Amsterdam, Corriverton and Linden cities. This researcher doesn’t think Granger has the testosterone to move the capital of Guyana from Georgetown to Linden. Certainly, the capital of Guyana needs to be on higher ground - well above sea level. While this researcher made the argument for Buxton to be capital of East Demerara, he feels Guyanese must be either encouraged or forced to remove from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean to much higher ground in the interior of the country. Agricultural lands beyond the Hilly Sand and Clay Belt needs to be identified. Apotari is perhaps an ideal location for a top class international airport. Economic development must accompany the establishment of towns. Industrialization of the locations is absolutely necessary. Cheap power supply is needed as the source of energy to motivate industrial development. Guyana 2030 needs to be studied for feasibility. Otherwise, COALITION administrator is spewing mere rhetoric, and political propaganda, while creating distraction.
